Monk Manual Franciscan Friars of the Renewal
“By paths unknown I will guide them.”
“I answered concealed in the storm cloud.”
The radical claim and great mystery the Lord communicates to us through the psalmist is that in every circumstance He comes to us. Often we do not perceive him and in the more difficult moments of life, we may feel He is absent as perception and understanding are eclipsed by pain and unknowing; nonetheless, in one way or another, He tells us He “stands at the door of the heart and knocks” (cf. Rev 3:20).
“It’s my hope that the album would awaken in the heart a new wonder for the beauty and sweetness of repentance, a desire to take that journey of “recovery” (with some ‘how to’s’ along the way), and an awareness that God’s medicines are ultimately born to us in the mysteries of our lives.”
J.J. Wright, Director for the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir, produced the Mysteries and Medicines album, played keyboards, and contributed back-up vocals. He was also involved with “Poco a Poco.” His family met the CFRs years ago when they volunteered alongside the friars to serve the homeless.
May the mysteries we have received, O Lord, bring us heavenly medicine.
Repentance, a similarly central theme of the album, is something that is often very misunderstood today. In light of Christ, repentance is meant to be something life-giving and joy-bearing. It is the process of recovery and renewal that the medicines of God’s mysteries are meant to bring about in our hearts.
The fruit of years of Spiritual Direction, the Mysteries and Medicines Prayer Journal provides a simple way to bring your heart to the Lord, each and every day.
“The method made me more attuned to how God was helping me in specific areas. I can see how this will help people draw closer to God and trust Him more.”

Beautiful music 🎶 I have one recommendation in regards to the prayer journal. The ink is too light very difficult reading. God bless you and your mission 🙏♥️☮️

Brother Isaiah has a gift with words and music. He can translate Bible verses into songs that reach in and touch your heart. The musical interpretations are particularly beautiful in Mysteries and Medicines. Thank you, now Father Isaiah!

The inmates at our rosary evening appreciated the song, Exodus, last night. We had a good discussion afterwards and a few of the phrases that stuck out for them we wrote on a whiteboard; Love, in dying to oneself for others, like our Jesus did for us was a powerful theme . I think I’ll hand out lyrics the next time we play it. Next time I think I’ll focus on personal Oh Freedom and New Life from the slavery of our bad habits and Ego. I’m thrilled that we have many wonderful songs to play in coming sessions from Mysteries & Medicines!!!

I listened to this music on Hallow but now also love having the CD. Each song is a prayer and I can hear them in my head thru the day. Just beautiful!

Amazing. This profoundly beautiful music draws the soul deeper into prayer and praise. I find myself lifted, peaceful, prayerful and filled with joy each time I listen - but I don't just listen - you are called to be part of the movement of the music, the depth of the praise. In the true meek footsteps of the Poverello, Father Isaiah's music is a balm to the weary soul while challenging the listener to join in the prayer.
