The Path

Stop living like a machine. Start living in Human Time.

The Path is a course by Monk Manual

Machines produce. Humans become.

The Path exists because most of us are living on Machine Time, an internal operating system that runs on pressure, performance, and the constant feeling of falling behind.

  • You wake up uneasy.
  • You check your phone before your feet hit the floor.
  • You move from task to task without touching what matters.
  • You are busy, but rarely touch the deeper work of your life.
  • You go to bed tired, but not fulfilled.

If you feel disconnected from your deeper purpose, or sense you’re capable of more than your days reflect. That's not a personal failure.

You inherited a broken model of time.

You weren’t made for Machine Time.

You were made for Human Time.

And when you reclaim it, everything changes.

The Path is our 6-week guided formation in reclaiming agency over your time

Take deliberate steps from autopilot to authorship as your days begin to reflect who you want to become and what you’re actually capable of.

The Path helps you

Rebuild your relationship to time through the TimeWise™ Framework.

TimeWise is a human-centered system built on four capacities that turn scattered effort into self-directed growth and momentum.

Perception

Rediscover Your Vision

Uncover the hidden scripts that keep you locked in Machine Time. Begin to see clearly what truly matters, (and what doesn't).

Attention

Redirect Your Focus

Machine Time demands. Human Time directs. Learn to place your attention—with precision—toward signal, not noise.

Rhythm

Reform Your Rhthym

Stop white-knuckling your calendar. Build a rhythm that supports who you are becoming and your most important work.

Orientation

Realize Your Potential

Align your actions with your inner compass. Let purpose shape your days, not pressure.

How you spend your time is how you spend your life.

People who complete The Path describe a subtle but powerful shift.

Dive in!! There’s nothing more freeing than learning how to prioritize what’s important to your life. You can pack your days with lots of stuff, but is it how you want to live and what you want to do? The Path helps you make that realization and build the structure you need to support the meaningful, intentional life you want.

Joell S.

As a college president, I actually have a certain agency over my time even in the context of work. The importance of clarity of purpose really resonates as it is easy to DO a lot without necessarily growing myself or helping others to grow.

John F.

The upside-down our glass was extremely powerful for me helping me see that I have the agency to decide what activities I fill my life with rather than feeling panicked as though time is slipping away…

Anna L.

Sign up, no question. It has been extremely enlightening, thought provoking, and useful. The cost was a stretch for my budget, but it was definitely well spent. I’ll be using these tools for a very long time.

FAQs

What exactly is The Path?

The Path is a 6-week guided cohort designed to help you experience a shift from Machine Time into Human Time: a more grounded, aligned, and self-directed way of living.

It’s not about managing your work or time better. It’s about being able to learn and change the system operating underneath the surface.

Less conceptual -> more experiential
Less theory -> more practice
Less ideas -> more embodiment

This is not a course. It's an experiential process.

We‘ve discovered that we can offer clarity and perspective at an intellectual level, but lived change doesn’t come from understanding alone. It comes from application and encounter with one's inner and outer world. From actually learning how to inhabit Human Time in everyday life.

Is this a productivity course?

No.

If you’re looking for hacks, tools, or ways to squeeze more output from your day, this isn’t that. There are plenty of good resources that focus on productivity and time-management systems.

The Path takes a different approach.

Instead of helping you manage time more efficiently, it helps you examine the deeper relationship to time that shapes how your days unfold in the first place.

Through simple practices and reflection, participants begin rebuilding rhythm, direction, and clarity from the inside out.

The shift is subtle but meaningful: moving from treating life as a production problem to inhabiting it as a human one.

What actually happens during the six weeks?

Each week guides you experientially through the four arenas of Human Time.

At the beginning of the week, you’ll receive a short orientation along with a Being Practice, a Doing Practice, a Question to Carry, and a Commitment to experiment with in your real life.

During the week, you live the practices and notice what begins to shift in how you experience your time.

On Thursdays, we gather for a live reflection session where participants share observations and name what they are seeing in their lives. These conversations are often where the deepest insights emerge.

Later in the week, a short teaching and field guide help contextualize the experience, making visible the difference between Machine Time and Human Time that many participants begin to notice for the first time.

Over six weeks, these small shifts accumulate into a different way of inhabiting your days.

How much time does it require each week?

Expect a 2-3 hours per week in total:

  • One live reflection session (with multiple time options)
  • One weekly practice integrated into your normal life
  • Short teaching content to anchor the work

The Path is designed to fit into real life, not overwhelm it.

What if I can’t attend every live session?

The teaching content is recorded, so you’ll always be able to access the core material.

The group reflection sessions are not recorded, but two live options are available each week to make participation easier across different schedules.

You’ll also have access to the private community and integration materials for a full year, so there is plenty of space to engage the work at your own pace.

I’ve read books on time-management and productivity. How is this different?

Most productivity systems assume the solution to feeling overwhelmed is better management of your time.

The Path starts from a different premise.

It isn’t about managing time more efficiently. It’s about examining the relationship to time that shapes how your days unfold in the first place.

Many people who join The Path have already tried productivity systems. Those tools can be helpful, but they rarely address the deeper experience of living under constant pressure.

The Path focuses on that deeper layer - helping you move from the mechanical pace of Machine Time toward the lived experience of Human Time.

I’m already disciplined and fairly successful. Is this for me?

Often, yes.

The Path is designed for people who are capable, responsible, and productive, yet sense that something about how their days unfold doesn’t fully reflect who they are becoming.

Many participants arrive functioning well on the surface, but feeling a subtle misalignment underneath it.

The work of The Path isn’t about becoming more productive.

It’s about bringing your time into deeper alignment with your life.

What changes do people usually experience during The Path?

Many people arrive at The Path functioning well on the surface.

They are productive, responsible, and capable.

But something about their days feels strangely mechanical, as if they are carrying out their life rather than actually inhabiting it.

The Path helps people reconnect with their time from the inside out.

Decisions become less forced.
Attention becomes less fragmented.
Work, rest, and relationships begin to feel more integrated.

Instead of simply moving through their days, people begin to experience their lives as something they are genuinely present inside.

As a result of alignment with one's time and oneself, the following commonly occur.

• Greater clarity about what actually matters
• Less internal pressure and decision fatigue
• The ability to make daily choices with more confidence
• Days that develop rhythm instead of swinging between urgency and burnout
• A deeper sense of alignment between their work, their time, and their life

This isn’t a quick fix.

It’s a reorientation.

What does this have to do with the Monk Manual planner?

The Monk Manual planner emerged from the same ideas behind The Path.

For years, we’ve been exploring a different relationship to time, one that emphasizes reflection, rhythm, and alignment rather than constant output.

The planner was one way of bringing those ideas into daily life.

The Path goes deeper. It creates space to examine the assumptions shaping how we experience time in the first place, and to experiment with living differently.

Many people discover the philosophy through the planner.
The Path is where that philosophy becomes more fully lived.

Why should I do this now instead of later?

Because the cost of staying in Machine Time is subtle, but cumulative.

Another year of background pressure.
Another year of being productive but not fully aligned.
Another year of sensing something deeper is possible but never quite creating space for it.

The Path exists to interrupt that cycle. To set you on a new path.

If you already sense something needs to shift, that awareness won’t disappear. It will either deepen, or get buried under more busyness.

There is rarely a “perfect time.” There is only the decision to begin.

What if I wait for the next cohort?

You can.

But it’s worth noticing the pattern: Machine Time often suggests waiting until things calm down. For most people, that moment rarely arrives.

Doors close March 12th at midnight so this group can begin the work together. Future cohorts will likely have a higher tuition.

What makes this worth the tuition?

Most programs about time focus on tools, tactics, or information.

The Path focuses on something deeper: your lived relationship to time itself.

Over six weeks, you’re not simply learning new ideas. You’re engaging practices, conversations, and reflections designed to help you experience your days differently - with more clarity, less internal friction, and a stronger sense of authorship over how your life unfolds.

For many people, that shift changes far more than their schedule. It changes how they approach work, decisions, rest, and the direction of their life.

The tuition reflects the depth of that work, the structure supporting it, and the small, intentional cohort that moves through the experience together.

Who leads the weekly live sessions?

Weekly Thursday sessions are led by trained Path Guides, who facilitate the reflection process. Steven Lawson provides all teaching through weekly videos and leads the integration sessions in the final weeks. This structure is intentional, the guides hold space for experience, while Steven provides the framework and direct coaching where it's most valuable.

Are there payments plans or scholarships available?

Yes. Payment plans are available upon request. Simply email hello@monkmanual.com.

If the tuition is a genuine obstacle for you but you feel strongly called to participate, you’re welcome to reach out. A limited number of partial scholarships may be available each cohort.

The Path works best when people enter with real commitment, so we encourage participants to invest in the experience in a way that reflects the value they hope to receive from it.

Who is The Path NOT for?

The Path isn’t designed for people looking for quick productivity hacks or passive online learning.

It’s also not a good fit if you’re hoping someone will simply give you a better system to manage more tasks.

The Path is reflective, experiential work. It asks you to examine the patterns shaping how you spend your time and to experiment with new ways of living inside your days.

If you’re willing to engage that process honestly, it can be deeply clarifying.

But if you’re primarily looking for tactics or shortcuts, this likely isn’t the right place.

What if I’m not sure this will actually change anything?

That’s a fair question.

The Path doesn’t promise instant transformation or quick fixes. What it offers is something more durable: a set of practices and conversations that help you examine the internal structure shaping how you relate to time.

When people begin engaging that structure directly, something shifts. Not because they learned a new theory, but because they start experiencing their days differently.

If you approach the work with honesty and curiosity, the shift tends to become experiential, not conceptual.

Is this therapy or coaching?

No.

Therapy is designed to help people process past experiences and emotional wounds.
Coaching typically focuses on setting goals and optimizing performance.

The Path does something different.

It’s a formation journey designed to help you examine and rebuild your relationship to time from the inside out.

Over six weeks, through guided practices, group reflection, and lived experimentation, you begin shifting from the pressure of Machine Time to the alignment of Human Time.

It’s not about fixing you and it’s not about pushing you harder.

It’s about helping you inhabit your life and time more consciously.

Why does this matter?

Because how you spend your time is how you spend your life.

And if time feels like something happening to you, rather than something you’re directing, the deeper work of your life gets postponed.

The Path helps you step back into authorship.
