How Present Are You

Most people would say they want to live a long life. But maybe our focus on longevity misses an even more fundamental life opportunity. It’s not just the quantity of our days, but the quality of presence we give to these days. Every single day, we have the choice of engaging or disengaging with life. Of witnessing it, or missing it. Of being present, or of being somewhere else. Why does this matter? Imagine you are only present to your life and those around you 50% of the time. For someone who lives to 100, that means they only actually experienced 50 of those years, and the other 50 years they spent somewhere else. Maybe in the future. Maybe in the past. Maybe in their heads. The only place where we can actually live, and experience life, is in the present moment. The Here. The Now.

THIS WEEK: Consider what percentage of time you live in the present vs in the future or past? How might you take your ability to be present as seriously as you take things like your health and other goals?

All the best,
