We often misunderstand values. Values don’t exist in a vacuum, they are always held in tension with one another, and the particular stack ranking of the things we value dictates the decisions we make as well as the things we prioritize. If you value saving money and supporting small businesses to the same degree, you will have a difficult time deciding whether to shop at the local mom-and-pop store or head to Amazon.
Our values are always in tension. Choosing between a good and bad thing is relatively clear and easy. Where things often break down is when we are choosing between two relative goods, which is most decisions.
THIS WEEK: What is a decision you are struggling with right now? Spend some time considering the conflicting values in this tension, and which of these values matter most to you. Then allow clarity to ensue.
All the best,
