A common struggle with individuals I coach is balancing a desire to be generous with the natural limitations of time and energy. There is no shortage of problems and people who would benefit from our generosity, and it can be difficult to say no (even though it’s inevitable). Here is what I’ve found as the best solution. Make a firm decision that you want to dedicate everything you do to the greater good. From your daily work, to your breakfast, to time with friends - wrap everything in a spirit of generosity. With generosity as a committed foundation the question shifts from whether or not you should be generous, but rather how you should be generous. The task becomes one of discerning not whether or not you will work towards good, but what is the greatest good you can contribute at any given time. The result is a certain freedom, and an uncommon level of personal meaning.
THIS WEEK: Pick a day and try a generosity experiment. From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed, do everything with the desire to serve the greater good. Leave nothing off the table. Notice your experience of this day.
All the best,
